About Trust Wallet

Trust Wallet is a self-custody cryptocurrency wallet that supports multiple blockchains, allowing users to store, send, receive, and exchange digital assets directly from their mobile devices or browser extension. Its core value proposition is that users retain full control of their private keys, eliminating reliance on centralized exchanges. The wallet also integrates a DApp browser, enabling access to decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols and non-fungible token (NFT) marketplaces without leaving the app.

Market pain points it addresses include the risk of exchange hacks or insolvency, the complexity of managing multiple wallets across different chains, and the need for a unified interface to interact with various decentralized applications. By offering a non-custodial solution with broad chain support, it reduces the burden of asset management while enhancing security.

Over the past six months (February to August 2026), Trust Wallet has focused on improving user experience and expanding functionality. This includes refining its swap mechanism to offer better rates, enhancing the in-app risk alerts for phishing and malicious contracts, and optimizing the wallet's performance for faster transaction confirmations. The team has also been actively engaging with the community through X (formerly Twitter) to gather feedback and roll out incremental updates.

However, it is important to note that in 2023, Trust Wallet experienced a security incident where a malicious version of its browser extension was distributed, potentially compromising user funds. Additionally, a vulnerability related to low-entropy key generation (CVE-2023-31290) was disclosed, which affected a subset of wallets. These issues have been addressed, but they highlight the inherent risks of self-custody solutions and the importance of always using the latest official version.

Updated: Aug 29, 2026

Trust Wallet's key milestones include its 2017 founding as a multi-chain self-custody wallet, later expanding to support 100+ blockchains. In December 2025, a critical security incident occurred when the Chrome extension v2.68 was compromised via a stolen Chrome Web Store API key, leading to a supply chain attack that drained approximately $8.5 million from 2,596 addresses. The team responded by removing the malicious version, releasing a fixed version, and launching a compensation verification process (CSVC) that received over 2,630 claims. The extension was subsequently reinstated on the Chrome Web Store. In 2026, Trust Wallet introduced an AI agent capable of executing cross-chain cryptocurrency transactions, marking a significant product evolution. Additionally, Felix Fan was appointed as the new CEO, signaling a leadership transition. These events highlight the project's resilience in handling security crises while continuing to innovate, from wallet infrastructure to AI-driven transaction execution.
